Phil Hughes was voted the best pitcher in the AA Eastern League by Baseball America. And here is BA’s rundown of the Yanks farm system. Montero would probably make the list for his 80/80 power, but he hasn’t played in a pro game yet (having just turned 17). He’s currently learning in the Dominican Instructional League. Next year he’ll most likely be with the (rookie league) Gulf Coast League Yankees.

Tremendous numbers from Joba and Ian. Joba’s 46 Ks to 3 bb is incredible. Kennedy’s 0 HRs is almost as impressive. They could both be in the Show as early as 2008.

A great month for Beam. He spent a little time with the Yanks this year (2006), and will be among the first call-ups next year during a pitching injury. He didn’t fare well in the Show, but he only pitched 18 innings, and it’s taken him time to adjust to each new league. But after he adjusts, he’s almost lights out.
Pilittere surprised a lot of people with his impressive Fall League. He should start next year in AA, and if he continues to hit, he could reach the Show by 2008.
A decent month for Gardner, who will begin next year in AAA Scranton. With OF injuries to the Yanks, he could see time in the Bronx next year (and a lot more time if Melky gets traded). His defense is already Major League plus, and being a CF makes him that much more valuable. At the very least, he’ll be a better version of Bubba Crosby: great speed, great D. A lot of walks, but too many Ks.
