Terrell Owens Has Finger Surgery

If T.O. drops more passes next year, he at least won’t be able to blame his bad hand.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens had successful surgery on Thursday in Miami to repair a torn tendon in his right ring finger.
Owens played the latter part of the 2006 season with the injury even though he was told he was risking permanent damage, according to a story in Friday’s Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He went to Miami for another consultation before having the surgery.
“The doctor is very optimistic,” Owens told the newspaper from Miami Thursday night. “I am happy I had the surgery. I am happy with the news he gave me that I will return to 100 percent.”
Owens, who caught 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns this season, said his Miami doctor stayed in constant contact with Cowboys trainer Jim Maurer during the process. Owens told the newspaper he is experiencing intense pain because it was a soft tissue injury. He wouldn’t put a timetable on when he will be catching passes again but said he will be ready for the 2007 season.
“I am sitting here watching a lot of basketball,” Owens said. “I hate the fact that we are out of the playoffs. I feel bad about the season. I am just trying to get my mind away from everything right now. But I can’t wait to get back on the field.”
He was far more trouble than he was worth this season but I do think he’ll be back with the Cowboys next year. Despite leading the team in catches and the league in TDs, he dropped a ridiculous number of passes and did a lousy job of route running for an elite veteran.
