Bullpen wastes Arod’s big game

It took only 15 games for Joe Torre to break his vow never to use Mariano Rivera for more than one inning. Perhaps he should have stuck by it.
Alex Cora played the role of Marco Scutaro last night, driving in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Red Sox came from four runs down to stun the Yankees 7-6 on a night when Alex Rodriguez hit two more home runs.
Pitching for the first time since giving up a three-run walk-off home run to Scutaro in Oakland on Sunday, Rivera was called in to protect a three-run lead.
“I lied, what can I tell you?” said Torre, who promised in spring training that he would restrict Rivera to the ninth inning to protect his 37-year-old right arm. “I’m not going to defend it.”
