Sharks Defeat Predators, Advance to 2nd Round

The San Jose Sharks have won thier series against the Nashville Predators in five games by scores of 5-4, 2-5, 3-1, 3-2, & 3-2.

It is worth mentioning that unlike the NBA Playoffs, the NHL Playoffs re-seeds the teams after the first round to set up a second round where the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed. Second Round preview and picks to follow as soon as the teams are settled.

Sabres Defeat Islanders, Await 2nd Round Opponent

The Buffalo Sabres booked their ticket to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they wrapped up their series against the New York Islanders in five games by scores of 4-1, 2-3, 3-2, 4-2, & 4-3.

That puts me at 3 out of 4 so far.

Ducks, Senators Advance To Stanley Cup 2nd Round

I’ve staged a comeback with my picks upping my record to 2 of 3 as the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks books tickets to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they both wrapped up their respective series in five games.

Ottawa Senators over Pittsburgh Penguins 4 games to 1 by scores of 6-3, 3-4, 4-2, 2-1, & 3-0

Anaheim Ducks over Minnesota Wild 4 games to 1 by scores of 2-1, 3-2, 2-1, 1-4, & 4-1

Collegiate Rugby National Championship Brackets

With the last of the league championships wrapped up, the final brackets for the Division I & II Collegiate Rugby National Championships have been released. Now you won’t see any of the games on ESPN, or even CSTV, but if you are in the area for any of the games go out and catch some of the play you may be suprised and actually enjoy it. Don’t worry if you don’t know whats going on, just ask someone because most rugby fans are more than happy to help someone get more interested in their sport.

Rangers Sweep Thrashers

Well, I’m 0 for 1 on my picks so far as the Rangers swept the Thrashers out of the Playoffs winning the four games with scores of 4-3, 2-1, 7-0, & 4-2. The Rangers just stuck it to the Thrashers as the veteran leadership figured to lead the Thrashers was hardly a factor in the series. Good job by the Rangers overall they turned their season around after looking like they would miss the playoffs two months ago. They got hot to make the playoffs and have carried that through, if they can keep this play up their second round opponent will have a tough series ahead.

Update on other First Round Series:
New Jersey Devils tied with Tampa Bay Lightning 2-2
Buffalo Sabres lead New York Islanders 3-1
Ottawa Senators lead Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1
San Jose Sharks lead Nashville Predators 3-1
Detroit Red Wings lead Calgary Flames 2-1
Vancouver Canucks lead Dallas Stars 3-1
Anaheim Ducks lead Minnesota Wild 3-1

Fenway Park Flying Pizza Incident

Man goes for foul ball.

Man misses foul ball.

Man spills beer.

Man gets hit by pizza.

PIZZA?! Yes a pizza.

Drew lofted a foul toward Box 82, which juts into left field foul territory. Sole stretched for the ball as the Angels’ Garret Anderson reached the stands. They collided, spilling beer everywhere, and the ball bounced away.

As if the slo-mo spill and requisite grimacing weren’t enough, a large slice of cheese pizza then arced perfectly through the crowd, hitting Sole’s shoulder and face. Once he realized what hit him, he went ballistic while girlfriend Anya Ho, 29, tried to wipe off his face.

A few rows away, Madore and buddy Danny Kelly beamed. It turns out Sole had given them grief about having a large pizza in the stands just moments before the at-bat. He wanted to know where they got it.

“He turned around and said something like, ‘Your mother,’ ” Sole said.

“No,” interjected Ho. “He said, ‘The pizzeria.’ ”

Either way, all parties were annoyed.

“They had been giving us (expletive) about it,” Madore said. “Next thing I know, there’s a fly ball to left field and it goes foul and my buddy says, ‘You want some pizza now?’ And he hits him right in the face. Hey, the guy wasn’t paying attention. When you’re in the stands you’ve got to be ready for anything – a foul ball, a flying slice of pizza, everything.”

Kelly, sporting a Patriots [team stats] jacket, was tossed.

“It was just a stupid thing,” he said. “It’s not something to be proud of. It was just stupidity all around.”

Madore and Sole began jawing – “He has a little bit of a temper,” Ho said – and Madore got the boot, as well.

By the time the eighth inning rolled around, however, most involved couldn’t stop laughing. Sole fielded nonstop calls from friends telling him he was on NESN, which named him “Fan of the Game.” He wondered if he could meet NESN’s Tina Cervasio.

Of course you can watch the NESN broadcast here and catch the play-by-play commentary, which is pretty hilarious.

Don Imus Fired From CBS For Rutgers Comments

According to CBS, Don Imus has been fired from his radio show today after being fired from his MSNBC simulcast earlier this week.

(CBS) NEW YORK CBS 2 has learned that CBS-owned radio station WFAN has fired Don Imus. The news comes a day after MSNBC discontinued their relationship his radio show.

CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves met with Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on Thursday morning to discuss Imus’ future with the company. The shock jock has been in hot water since calling members of the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos.”

Canadian Province Passes Legislation Chastising NHL

In the ongoing Canadian meltdown over the Pittsburgh-Ottawa game being schedule for the afternoon and not at night, we can now add memebers of the Canadian government to the meltdown list.

The Nova Scotia legislature has endorsed a resolution chastising the NHL for its decision to schedule the Pittsburgh Penguins’-Ottawa Senators playoff game for Saturday afternoon rather than the evening Hockey Night in Canada slot.

The league is trying to accommodate the U.S. television network NBC, which usually airs NHL games on weekend afternoons.

Progressive Conservative backbencher Pat Dunn drafted the resolution. Nova Scotians are keen to see Dartmouth native Sidney Crosby in his first playoff season and a 4 p.m. faceoff makes no sense, Dunn said.

“Most Nova Scotians are very busy with their lives — out, some working, some shopping, running errands and so on,” Dunn said. “Just not a good time to be sitting down watching a hockey game prior to parents

Dallas-Vancouver Play 6th Longest Playoff Game Ever

Despite having to get up early, through sheer detemination (or stupidity) I stayed up for all 138 minutes and 6 seconds of the Vancouver-Dallas Game last night. For those keeping track thats about 2.3 games untill Marty Turco could not make his 52nd save and Vanouver won 5-4, of course Roberto Luongo was no slouch stopping 72 of 76 shots. However this is not the longest playoff game in NHL History, but the fact they were still standing after all of that was pretty impressive and in reality this game may have already won the series for Vancouver because losing like that has cause the downfall of many a playoff team. Below is listed how this game stacks up against the other marathon playoff games.
