2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket

Well here it is-

2010 bracket

I don’t have to say. Later in the week, I’ll take a shot at predicting the outcome.

For less than a dollar a day- New Mexico State asks fans for snack help

Send us your twinkies, M&Ms, etc. etc. From AP-

Calling all New Mexico State Aggies fans. Your team has the munchies and you can help.

In a twist on Little League moms lining up with after-game treats, New Mexico State’s budget-conscious football staff distributed an e-mail this week asking fans to donate after-practice or late-night snacks for hungry players.

It’s a consequence of the national economy, of course.

“It’s a decision we had to make with regard to our meals,” first-year coach DeWayne Walker said Thursday. “There are a lot of other areas where we have to make tough choices with how we’re going to spend our money.”

We have some starving 300 lb men with need for more nourishment. That sales pitch will go over real well. Apparently not…..

That was the bad news. The good news for Walker and his players has been the community’s response. The memo went out after the first day of practice, and six donors wasted no time before they ponied up.

We’re not talking about Cheetos here.

“It’s good stuff like trail mix or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,” linebacker Jamar Cotton said. “We had a guy bring in a bunch of watermelons. That was great. The team was excited. It was like little kids getting lollipops.”

As the saying goes- There’s a sucker born every minute.

Sacramento Kings fire Reggie Theus coach

Another one bites the dust.

Two days after a heavy home loss to the New York Knicks, Reggie Theus was fired Monday as coach of the Sacramento Kings.

Assistant coach Kenny Natt has been elevated to interim coach. Natt is Sacramento’s fourth coach in less than three years, following Theus, Eric Musselman and Rick Adelman, who left the club after the 2005-06 season.

Theus is the sixth NBA coach to be fired before Christmas this season, joining Philadelphia’s Maurice Cheeks, Minnesota’s Randy Wittman, Toronto’s Sam Mitchell, Washington’s Eddie Jordan and Oklahoma City’s P.J. Carlesimo. The previous NBA record for pre-Christmas firings was three.

Theus, who coached at New Mexico State before coming to Sacramento, has a three year deal. How nice must it be to get paid for nothing for a year and a half when sports franchises fire coaches with time remaining on the contract

All sarcasm aside, Sacramento was 6-18 this year. The Kings ownership does have more than enough justification for the firing on that basis alone.

NM State fires head football coach Hal Mumme

He spent four years in Las Cruces. From ESPN-

New Mexico State fired coach Hal Mumme on Monday after a 3-9 record overall and 1-7 in the WAC this season.

New Mexico State lost the last seven games of the season. Mumme, the former Kentucky coach, was 11-38 in four years.

His contract was set to expire in 2010.

Which probably means Mumme will spend 1.5-2 years earning money for doing nothing. Not too bad for someone age 56. Why can’t I get fired by a college before my contract is up?
